There is a Light for Buffalo and Me
This is the third design to be highlighted by Angela Warner, known affectionately as “Angamo.” This concept, “There is a Light….for Buffalo & Me!”, was actually the FIRST piece of ARTWORK that CityLove ever had. It was part of the original CityLove launch in July 2007, and has not been available again since.

Background: This idea, for those of you playing real close attention, comes from one of Tony CityLove’s favorite hip-hop songs of all time. The message is: “There is a light that shines special for Buffalo & Me.” This message is paraphrased from the rapper (& actor) Common’s song – “The Light” – on his Like Water for Chocolate (2000) album.

The original brainstorming between Angamo and Tony centered around a “sun” shining down on some sort of a “flower in bloom.” Angamo, who also drew “Strengthen Our Roots,” came up with the “sun/vine” idea, choosing to put the entire “key phrase” as the dynamic rays of the sun.Brilliant. The end result is a design that clearly celebrates “Buffalo & Me,” but also has the intricate detail of a full sentence for those who look closer.

Even More Background: The song earned Common a Grammy nomination and is arguably his most recognizable song, having more cross-over appeal than any of his edgier songs. Legend has it that it was a “love poem” towards his girlfriend of the time, Erykah Badu.
